Atomfall, from the creators of Sniper Elite, ditches traditional quests – players will have to explore the open world, following clues to progress.

The action-survival game is significantly different in spirit from Fallout and is more like The X-Files, the developers said.

Rebellion spoke to GamesRadar+ about Atomfall, their next game, which will be released on March 27, a couple of months after the new Sniper Elite. We picked out the main points.

  • In the action-survival game, you shouldn’t expect the traditional quest system for similar titles. Right from the start, players will have to look for various clues in the big world to follow them and learn about the past of the main character, who has lost his memory.
  • Some clues will be connected, while others, on the contrary, will contradict each other. Gamers will have to decide which trail to follow to get to the truth. During the progression of the plot, you will be able to meet NPCs who have their own point of view on the events of the past and future. They will also react differently to the actions taken towards them.
  • Atomfall will have around five or six endings, depending on the clues found and the fate of the characters. The developers have stated that their main goal is for “gamers to trust no one” while adapting to the brutal post-apocalyptic world.
  • The action-survival game will encourage exploration of locations – there are several ways to reach the goal or avoid danger. In all cases, players will be able to find something interesting.
  • In spirit, Atomfall is more like the cult series The X-Files than the Fallout franchise. Rebellion noted that their game is not an RPG at all, although role-playing elements will appear in it.
  • The development of the action-survival game has been going on for almost six years. The authors noted that at the beginning of production they did not have the resources to create a full-fledged open world, so they decided to make interconnected sandbox biomes.

Atomfall will be released on March 27, 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, including Game Pass. And on January 30, Sniper Elite: Resistance will be released on PC and consoles.
