Global mod for Project Zomboid that recreates life before the zombie apocalypse has been released

A developer nicknamed Slayer has unveiled a large-scale modification called Week One for the survival game Project Zomboid, which allows you to see life in Knox County a week before the outbreak. The mod completely transforms the game world and reveals one of the game’s main mysteries: what life was like for local residents before the disaster.

With the release of the unstable Build 42, which added basements, updated lighting, livestock farming, and new floors to a mysterious military base, the community continues to theorize about the nature of the virus. Some fans believe it to be a government-created airborne weapon, while others blame a mysterious sauce from Spiffo’s. Now, players can see for themselves the last peaceful days of Knox County.

Unlike the original game, which begins in mid-July after the outbreak, Week One begins seven days before the disaster. The streets are filled with living NPCs — they go to work, take walks, and relax at home. Players can explore the world without the risk of encountering zombies, but gradually the infection begins to spread, and the usual way of life collapses.

The mod developer warns about some technical features. Week One works only in single-player mode and can significantly affect performance due to large-scale changes to the game world. It is recommended to reduce the number of zombies and NPCs in the settings. The mod is incompatible with current saves and requires starting a new game. It is important to note that the modification was created specifically for build 42 – users of older versions need to update the game before installing.

Gameplay with the Week One mod can be seen on the Thanetian Gaming channel. The modification is already available for download for everyone.
