Perhaps not everyone remembers that the original launch of Assassin’s Creed III in 2012 was also accompanied by a spin-off conceived at the time exclusively for PlayStation Vita: we are talking about Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, an adventure with events parallel to those of the main chapter.
Liberation puts us in the shoes of Aveline de Grandpré and is set mainly in Louisiana, still in the 18th century like Assassin’s Creed III. And even if we are talking about one of the least successful Assassin’s Creed games in the series, Liberation still has some ideas that could be worth rediscovering for fans by replaying the PS Vita version or the remastered edition that was later released on multiple home consoles such as PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch .
An unpublished story that intertwines with Connor’s adventures
Liberation shows us the eternal conflict between Assassins and Templars through the point of view of Aveline, with a focus mainly on Louisiana and a story that takes place in parallel to the events of Assassin’s Creed III (remember the most memorable moments of Assassin’s Creed 3 ).

Although part of the local nobility, the protagonist fights to free the region from slavery and the Templar presence, giving life to a story with its twists and further insights that further enrich the narrative universe of the Ubisoft series.
Unique and spectacular scenarios
The Louisiana setting allowed Ubisoft to create a very different context than those shown by the series up to that point. The swamps surrounding New Orleans are the scene of new dangers and fresh and original gameplay opportunities that allowed Liberation to have its own peculiar essence within the brand. Not everything was handled impeccably, but this spin-off certainly did not lack the courage to dare both in terms of gameplay and in terms of scenery, thus maintaining its own uniqueness even today.

Liberation had some new gameplay mechanics, such as the ability to chain attacks together to kill multiple enemies at once, and above all a disguise function that gave Aveline more possibilities for action, strategy and movement. Dressed as an Assassin, the protagonist was perfect for combat but was also more easily spotted by enemies, while the Slave disguise was all to the advantage of the stealth approach, allowing her to go more unnoticed. Finally, the Noblewoman costume allowed Aveline to distract guards or bribe them to access restricted areas, at the expense of much more limited movements. This type of mechanic therefore gave greater depth to the gameplay, allowing you to experiment with more different solutions to reach each objective.
